Quentin Brown When looking for feeds it is important that you get ones that have information that will support your site. Be careful not to get just headlines. Go to the software page for a full tutorial on looking for feeds and some software to help you. The core use for RSS is generally considered news headlines and blog syndication, but innovative businesses are learning to use RSS in different ways. Consider RSS as a communication channel that can provide current, targeted information as it appears within a very targeted audience. RSS is still very young. Both publishers and consumers are actively seeking ways to exploit this communication medium. Additional uses of RSS feeds are popping up daily. Consider how your business might use this new communication medium to increase sales, increase productivity, and reach new customers. MSI Fetch is great for adding feeds to your website however there are some other tools you should get to make your own feeds and keep up to date with other peoples feeds. Make your Own Feeds There are a lot of programs you can get to build your own feeds but here are two I like. Just do a search on goggle for RSS Editors and find one you like. Here is a good list http://www.allrss.com/rsseditors.html There are two good programs that allow you to create your own feeds. Actually there are lots however these are both free and do an excellent job. The first is RSS Editor which we have used in the video series. RSSeditor/Win v0.9.50 is available now with and supports podcasts! Some help text is integrated into the application, but there is no detailed documentation yet. Click here to download. The second one I have been playing with that also seems good is RSS Builder however while it is much more robust and allows you to do a lot more it runs on a framework so make sure you read the instructions first. Allowing html in your feed is definitely a plus.
Read Feeds On Your Desktop A good way to get used to RSS syndication and to get way ahead of the competition is to get a reader for your desktop. I use RSS Reader as it is simple and lets me see what a feed looks like before I add it to MSI Fetch. Most feeds are just links trying to get you to visit their website however we are stating to see new innovations like weather, comics, audio and video, articles all becoming rss feeds.
